Read more about the changeAccording to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the index of wage and salary earnings, which measures the growth in the nominal earnings of full-time wage and salary earners, rose by 4.9 per cent in July to September 2023 when compared with the respective period in 2022. Over the same period, the real earnings level of wage and salary earners decreased by 0.9 per cent because the rise in consumer prices was faster than that of the earnings level. However, during 2023, the real earnings level of wage and salary earners has started to rise.

- In July to September 2023, the annual change in wage and salary earners' nominal level of earnings was the biggest annual change in the development of the level of earnings since 2008.
- Examined by employer sector, the nominal earnings level of wage and salary earners rose most in local government in July to September 2023.
- The index for regular earnings, which better describes permanent changes in the level of earnings, rose in July to September 2023 clearly less than the index of wage and salary earnings.
- An error in the consumer price index also had an effect on measuring the development of real earnings.
