Road traffic accidents claimed 13 lives in May

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 267 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 13 persons were killed and 306 persons injured. The number of persons killed was five lower and that of persons injured 101 lower than in May 2019. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, seven travelled by passenger car, one by van, two by motorcycle and one by lorry and by bus. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered two. Among those who died, eight were men and five were women.

A total of 1,231 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period. In them, 82 persons were killed and 1,505 persons injured. The number of persons killed was seven higher and that of persons injured 241 lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. Of the persons who were killed, 50 travelled by passenger car, four by van, three by motorcycle and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 10 and cyclists eight. In addition, five other road users were killed.
