Road traffic accidents claimed 14 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 340 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 14 persons were killed and 414 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 12 lower and that of persons injured 20 lower than in October 2018. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car and two by van. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 10 were men and four were women.

A total of 3,357 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to October period. In them, 182 persons were killed and 4,225 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three lower and that of persons injured 253 lower than in the corresponding period of 2018. Of the persons who were killed, 106 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, three by moped, 25 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 15. In addition, eight other road users were killed.
