Road traffic accidents claimed 13 lives in May

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 447 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 13 persons were killed and 555 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 16 lower and that of persons injured 73 lower than in may 2013.

Of the persons who were killed, eight travelled by passenger car and one by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists two. Among those who died, nine were men and four were women.

A total of 1 810 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to May period. In them, 70 persons were killed and 2 270 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 24 lower and that of persons injured 176 higher than in the corresponding period of 2013. Of the persons who were killed, 41 travelled by passenger car, three by van, one by motorcycle and two by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 11 and cyclists nine. In addition, three other road users were killed.
