The social protection expenditure account is based on data derived from a number of statistics, annual reports, financial statements and other similar sources. Since the statistical year 1995, the European System of Integrated Social Protection Statistics (ESSPROS) has been used. The data for years before 1995 were calculated in accordance with the Nordic classification system.
