Industrial output grew by one per cent from March to April

According to Statistics Finland, seasonally adjusted industrial output was one per cent higher in April than in March 2004. Industrial output has shown slight growth in the last three months.

Industrial output grew by 0.7 per cent this April from April 2003

In April 2004, seasonally adjusted industrial output grew by 0.7 per cent from April 2003. Output increased most, 3 per cent, in other manufacturing. In the wood and paper industry, output went up by good 2 per cent. Output declined most, 5.5 per cent, in energy supply. Output in the chemical industry was just short of one per cent lower than in April 2003.

Capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing was almost 84 per cent in April 2004, which is good one percentage point higher than in April 2003. In the pulp and paper industry capacity utilisation rate was 93 per cent, in the metal industry 84 per cent and in the chemical industry 80 per cent. Capacity utilisation rate in other manufacturing was 78 per cent.

Revised data for April will be published on 30 June 2004 at 8 am in connection with the industrial output data for May. Because of the method used, seasonally adjusted figures for previous months may change even if the original figures do not become revised.
