A total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in February 2024

According to Statistics Finland, a total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in February 2024. The number of passengers was 4 per cent higher than in the previous year, but a quarter less than before the corona pandemic. The number of passengers on domestic flights decreased by one per cent, while the number of passengers on international flights increased by 6 per cent compared to February 2023.

More than a quarter of air traffic passengers travelled on domestic flights

In February 2024, a total of 1.1 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport and altogether 380,000 passengers flew through other domestic airports. Of all passengers, 92 per cent travelled on scheduled flights.

Seventy-three per cent of the air traffic passengers travelled on international flights and 27 per cent on domestic flights. The share of passengers on international flights was 82 per cent at Helsinki Airport and 46 per cent in total at other domestic airports.

Compared to February 2023, the total number of passengers was one per cent higher at Helsinki Airport and 12 per cent higher at other domestic airports. Among the domestic airports, the airports of Enontekiö, Rovaniemi, Kuusamo, Ivalo, Kittilä and Vaasa stood out with increased passenger numbers.

In February 2024, air freight and mail transport totaled 14,020 tonnes. In all, 97 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport and 99 per cent in traffic between Finland and foreign countries. Altogether 6,448 tonnes (46 %) of the transported volume of goods were incoming and 7,572 tonnes (54 %) were outgoing.
