Domestic leisure trips decreased clearly in December 2023

According to Statistics Finland, around 0.6 million leisure trips abroad were made in December 2023, which is good one tenth more than one year before. The number of domestic leisure trips with overnight stay was falling for the second year in a row.

The growth in leisure trips abroad in December 2023 was caused by an increase in cruises and same-day trips.
The number of leisure trips abroad with overnight stay in the destination country was around 0.5 million, which is unchanged from one year earlier.
Around 1.6 million domestic leisure trips with overnight stay were recorded in the statistics, which is one fifth lower than in December 2022. The number of business trips in Finland was also falling.
The number of nights spent during domestic and foreign leisure trips totalled around 9.6 million, which is almost the same as in the year before.
