Industrial output grew in November 2023 from one year back but fell from the previous month

Output grew most year-on-year in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply

Adjusted for working days, industrial output (C) was 2.0 per cent lower in November from one year earlier. Compared to the previous month, output decreased by 0.3 per cent.

Among the main industries examined in the chart, industrial output grew most in the forest industry, by 2.3 per cent from the month before. Output also grew slightly in the chemical industry and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, growing by 0.4 per cent in both industries. Output fell in all other main industries from the month before. The fall was biggest in mining and quarrying, 5.9 per cent from the previous month. Output also decreased in the food industry, by 1.7 per cent, in the metal industry, by 1.4 per cent, and in the electrical and electronics industry, by 1.3 per cent compared to October.

Compared to one year ago, output grew most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 21.2 per cent. Output in the chemical industry grew by 9.3 per cent and in mining and quarrying by 6.2 per cent from November 2022. Output decreased most strongly in the electrical and electronics industry, by 10.6 per cent, and in the forest industry, by 6.6 per cent. The food industry also generated less output than one year ago, 3.0 per cent, and the metal industry, 2.4 per cent.
