According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland, the number of occupational accidents grew in 2021 from the previous year. A total of 118,800 accidents at work occurred in 2021. This was 5.9 per cent more than in the year before.


Key selections

  • There were 6,500 more accidents at work in 2021 than in the year before.
  • Wage and salary earners had 6.8 per cent more accidents at work and self-employed 1.5 per cent more.
  • Farmers' accidents at work decreased by 13.3 per cent.
  • Wage and salary earners had 15.4 per cent more commuting accidents and 5.3 per cent more workplace accidents.
  • Examined by industry, the number of occupational accidents grew in relative terms most in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (24.1%) and in administrative and support service activities (15.5%).
