Number of nights spent at accommodation establishments fell by 4 per cent in October 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 1.62 million overnight stays were recorded in October 2023. The number of recorded nights spent by resident tourists was 1.31 million and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists 0.31 million. The number of overnight stays fell by four per cent from the previous year.

  • The growth in overnight stays by foreign visitors has evened out and the number of overnight stays remained on level with the previous year.
  • The number of overnight stays decreased by seven per cent in Uusimaa and grew by eight per cent in Lapland.
  • The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from Sweden, Germany and the United States.
  • The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 50 per cent, which was almost on level with October 2022.
  • The average price of a hotel room was EUR 111, which is the same as in the previous year. The average price of a hotel room was highest in Lapland, EUR 125.
