Eurostat publishes exceptional rapid estimate statistics on the number of deaths in Europe

During the coronavirus epidemic, a need has arisen in European countries to monitor the development of the number of deaths almost in real time. From this week on, Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union publishes weekly data by region on the number of deaths by sex and age. Data on all Member States having supplied data to Eurostat are published in Eurostat's database. Statistics Finland also releases data concerning Finland in the Experimental statistics database.

Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union asked the Member States, if possible, to take part in voluntary production of statistics on the weekly number of deaths to support monitoring the pandemic. Statistics Finland is one of the statistical offices of 13 Member States taking part in this project.

More information about the weekly numbers of deaths released by Statistics Finland during the emergency conditions is available in our news
