Accrual of environmental taxes on level with the previous year in 2013

EUR 5.8 billion was collected with environmental taxation in Finland in 2013. The amount of environmental taxes remained on level with the previous year. Altogether, 40 per cent of environmental taxes in 2013 came from transport fuels, that is motor gasoline and diesel oil. Environmental taxes accounted for 6.5 per cent of the entire tax revenue of the state, which was slightly less than in the year before.

In addition to environmental taxes, around EUR 1.2 billion was collected in environmentally-related charges, mainly in water supply, sewerage and waste management in 2013.

The accrual of vehicle-related taxes was EUR 1.8 billion in 2013, which was around 31 per cent of the entire tax revenue of the state. In total, 28 per cent of environmental taxes was collected from fuel oil, hard coal, fuel peat, natural gas and electricity. The accrual of waste tax also remained on level with the previous year, at around EUR 56 million in 2013.
