Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 667 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 26 persons were killed and 821 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 higher and that of persons injured 101 lower than in August 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 19 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van and 1 by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1 and cyclists 4. Among those who died, 19 were men and 7 were women.

A total of 4,009 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 185 persons were killed and 5,060 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 5 lower and that of persons injured 310 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 113 travelled by passenger car, 5 by van, 3 by lorry, 13 by motorcycle and 5 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 20 and cyclists 18. In addition, 8 other road users were killed.
