Producer Price Indices in August 2008
Producer prices for manufactured products rose by 5.4 per cent, export prices by 1.6 per cent and import prices by 7.9 per cent from August 2007 to August 2008. The basic price index for domestic supply went up by 7.7 per cent in the year. The year-on-year change in the wholesale price index was 7.5 per cent.
The rise in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by increased prices of oil products and electricity from August 2007. The rise in prices was curbed by fallen prices of non-ferrous metals.
From July to August producer prices for manufactured products fell by 0.1 per cent. The fall in the prices was especially due to reductions in the prices of oil products. The fall was held back by risen prices of electricity.
