Turnover in service industries fell by 0.9 per cent in December to February

Total turnover generated by service industries turned to a decline in the period December 2008 to February 2009 and was 0.9 per cent lower than in the respective period one year previously. In the previous three-month period that ended in November turnover increased by 6,5 per cent. At the end of the examination period turnover was declining in all the examined service industries, real estate activities and other service activities excluded. Services are here examined exclusive of trade and the data have been adjusted for working days by eliminating effects of calendar variations from them.

Turnover in transport and storage declined by 7.7 per cent year-on-year in the examined period. Turnover in accommodation and food services grew by 0.2 per cent and that in information and communication by 1.3 per cent when compared with the respective period in the year before. In professional, scientific and technical activities turnover was 1.0 per cent lower in December-February than in the respective period of the previous year. Turnover in administrative and support service activities grew by 1.4 per cent year-on-year in December-February. Turnover grew fastest in real estate activities, where it was 8.3 per cent higher in the examined period than in the respective period of the previous year. In December to February, turnover in arts, entertainment and recreation grew by 4.9 per cent and in other services by 3.1 per cent from the year before.
