Wage and salary earners' earnings rose by 2.7 per cent in April-June

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose by 2.7 per cent in April-June 2010 when compared with the respective period in 2009. The year-on-year rise in real earnings adjusted for the change in consumer prices stood at 1.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2010.

During the period from April-June 2009 to the respective period in 2010 the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose in the local government sector by 3.9 per cent, in the central government sector by 3.2 per cent and in the private sector by 2.3 per cent.

According to final data and compared with the year before, the average increase in the level of earnings during the year 2009 was 4.0 per cent and the increase in real earnings was also 4.0 per cent. During 2009 the nominal earnings of wage and salary earners rose in the central government sector by 5.3 per cent, in the private sector by 4.0 per cent and in the local government sector by 3.5 per cent compared with the year before. Earnings rose by 4.2 per cent for female employees and by 3.7 per cent for male employees.

Wage and salary earners' regular earnings increased by 2.7 per cent in April-June

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, wage and salary earners' regular earnings rose by 2.7 per cent in April-June 2010 when compared with the respective period in 2009. According to final data and compared with the year before, the average increase in the regular earnings during 2009 was 4.3 per cent and the increase in real regular earnings was also 4.3 per cent. During the year 2009 the regular earnings of wage and salary earners rose in the central government sector by 5.2 per cent, in the private sector by 4.4 per cent and in the local government sector by 3.5 per cent from the year earlier.

Wage and salary earners' regular earnings refer to earnings for regular working hours exclusive of performance-based bonuses and other irregularly paid one-off items.

Index of wage and salary earnings and index of regular earnings are final as far as the year 2009

The indices are final as far as the year 2009 and they based on final wage statistics. The indices for 2010 are still preliminary. The indices for 2010 are based on the effects of agreements and the wage drift.
