Description

The data are based on the National Institute for Health and Welfare Register of Congenital Malformations, which contains data on congenital anomalies detected in stillbirths or live births as well as in fetuses in selective terminations of pregnancy. The register receives data from hospitals, health-care professionals and cytogenetic laboratories, and data are also derived from the Medical Birth Register, the Care Registers for Social Welfare and Health Care, and the statistics on Information on Outpatient Services in Specialised Health Care, all maintained by the National Institute for Health and Welfare In addition, data are obtained from the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira), and the Cause of Death Statistics, maintained by Statistics Finland. The register has been kept since 1963.
