Clearly more open job vacancies in the second quarter of 2022 than one year earlier

The number of open job vacancies was 72,300 in the second quarter of 2022, while the figure was 51,100 one year before. These data derive from Statistics Finland's statistics on open job vacancies and describe the situation on the first day of June.

In the second quarter of 2022, a total of 50,500 or 70 per cent of the job vacancies were in establishments owned by private enterprises. Compared to one year ago, open job vacancies increased in both the private sector and the local government sector. The number of open job vacancies went up most in the major region of Helsinki-Uusimaa (+10,100). When examined by the industry of the establishment, job vacancies increased most in the industry group of public administration, education, human health and social work activities (O-Q), where growth centred on human health and social work activities.

Characteristics of job vacancies

In the second quarter, 30 per cent of all job vacancies were fixed-term, which was six percentage points lower than in the corresponding period of the year before. Seventeen per cent of all open job vacancies were part-time positions, while one year earlier the corresponding share was 21 per cent.

Employers estimated that 65 per cent of the open job vacancies were hard-to-fill, while the corresponding share was 58 per cent one year earlier. For example, there were plenty of jobs considered hard to fill in establishments of human health and social work activities (Q) in the tasks of practical nurses and registered nurses.
