Personnel decreased and turnover grew in enterprises in the industry of culture and mass media

In 2016, there were over 17,000 enterprises operating in the industry of culture and mass media in Finland. Their total turnover was over EUR 12.5 billion.

The number of enterprises in the industry of culture and mass media has decreased by more than 300 from 2015 to 2016 and their personnel has declined by more than 2,000 persons. However, fewer resources were able to increase turnover by EUR 360 million from the year before.

In the longer term, the personnel in the industry has decreased considerably. Since 2009, the number of enterprises has increased by around three per cent but their personnel has decreased by one-fifth or over 13,000 persons. Now the enterprises only employ, on average, close on three persons while in 2009, they still employed, on average, around four persons. Over the same period, however, only some EUR 98 million in turnover has melted away, which is less than one per cent of the enterprises’ turnover.
