7.2 Cross-sectional information - information from the turn of the year

Information about population size is typical cross-sectional information, which indicates the number of population at a certain moment either at the beginning or end of some year or at some other moment. It can express the total population or the number of people at a certain moment according to some feature, such as age.

At the end of 2000, the population of Finland was 5,181,115. At the end of the same year, the number of 50-year-olds was 82,846. Both represent cross-sectional information from the end of 2000.
