The previous lessons have given you an overview of demography as a field of science and you have also become familiar with the basic data of demographic research. The purpose of this lesson is to tell you more about the population phenomena demography studies.
Many events in an individual's life are relevant and interesting from the viewpoint of demography as well. Fertility, mortality, migration, marriages and divorces are population change factors that have different effects on the development of population. This lesson examines the content of these population phenomena in more detail.
Lesson 6 is closely connected to the two following lessons "Population data as the basis for key ratios " (Lesson 7) and "Measurement of population phenomena" (Lesson 8). The purpose of these three lessons is to teach you about the population phenomena and their contents and about the means for describing population phenomena.
