4.4 International sources

For users who need international statistics, the best starting-points are collections and online service of the Library of Statistics. Comparability is often a problem with statistics from different countries. This problem is most effectively addressed in statistics compiled by international organisations.

European statistics are available from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. Statistics compiled jointly by Eurostat and national statistical institutes under the European Statistical System can be found on Eurostat's website.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, also publishes large amounts of high quality statistics concerning its members, i.e. the world's developed nations.

Statistics on developed countries are also available on the statistics pages of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The United Nations Statistics Division publishes statistics on all countries of the world. Most special organisations of the UN also have their own pages of statistics.

The International Monetary Fund, IMF, publishes international economic statistics and metadata under the Special Data Dissemination Standard.
