4.1 Statistics Finland

Statistics Finland is the main producer and source of statistical data in Finland: it compiles around three-quarters of all government statistics in the country. Statistics Finland is also responsible for the steering and co-ordination of all statistics production in the public sector. Through its information service, Statistics Finland distributes information from all public producers of statistics.

Statistics Finland offers the following services to people looking for information:

An exhaustive source of official statistics is the portal of Official Statistics of Finland, which contains information from 300 sets of statistics: latest releases, tables, graphics, descriptions of contents, schedules of future releases, quality reports and other important information for the user of the statistics. The portal gives access to statistics compiled by both Statistics Finland and other producers.

Statistics Finland'swebsite at www.stat.fi also contains a lot of free statistical data and related information.

The collections of the Library of Statistics contain Finnish official statistics going back to the eighteenth century and a wide range of other statistical data; they are available to the general public in printed publications, online or in other electronic format. The Library's street address is Työpajankatu 13 B, Helsinki. The Library has a reading room as well as separate facilities for researchers.
