2.4 Economic territory

In addition to the areas within the country's political borders, the country's (economic) territory comprises domestic vessels and aircraft, even when they are operating in a foreign territory. Embassies and consulates are counted in the territory of the sending country, i.e. Finnish embassies around the world are included in the Finnish GDP. Other countries' embassies in Finland are accordingly entered in the national accounts of the corresponding sending country, i.e. they are not included in the Finnish GDP.

The production and revenue generated by multinational groups are assigned to the territory where production takes place. In other words, the production of Finnish companies' foreign units is recorded in the GDP figures of the countries where they are working. Similarly, the production of multinational fast food chains in Finland is counted in the Finnish GDP.

Areas and buildings used by the EU and other international organisations are counted as extraterritorial enclaves, i.e. they are not included in GDP figures.
