According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons in July was 2 595 000, or 55 000 higher than a year earlier. Employment increased in both the private and the public sector. The number of employed persons went up in the provinces of Southern Finland, Western Finland and Oulu.
In July, the employment rate , that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 72,9 per cent, which was 1,1 percentage points higher than one year previously. The employment rate of men was 75,1 per cent and that of women 70,7 per cent. The seasonally adjusted trend of the employment rate was 70,1 per cent.
According to the Labour Force Survey, there were 161 000 unemployed in July 2007, i.e. 18 000 fewer than in July of the year before. At 5,9 per cent, the unemployment rate was 0,7 percentage points lower than one year before. The seasonally adjusted trend of the unemployment rate was 6,9 per cent in July.
According to the Labour Force Survey, the average number of employed persons in the January to July 2007 period was 2 488 000, which is 50 000 more than over the corresponding period of the year before. The average number of unemployed persons was 198 000, or 25 000 fewer than in the January to July period of 2006.
