Employment grew in August 2006

According to the Labour Force Survey of Statistics Finland, the number of employed persons was 2,506,000 in August, i.e. 69,000 higher than one year before. The employment rate stood at 70.5(* per cent, while it was 69.0 per cent in August 2005. Adjusted for seasonal variation, the employment rate was 69.0 per cent.

The number of unemployed persons was 185,000 in August, i.e. same number than in the previous year. The rate of unemployment was 6.9 per cent, while it was 7.2 per cent one year earlier.

*) Correction. The previously published figure, 70.9 per cent, was not correct.
