Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in July

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 625 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 26 persons were killed and 820 persons injured. The number of persons killed was nine lower and that of persons injured 107 higher than in July 2013.

Of the persons who were killed, 13 travelled by passenger car, one by van and six by motorcycle. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered five. In addition one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 19 were men and seven were women.

A total of 2,888 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 122 persons were killed and 3,643 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 33 lower and that of persons injured 130 higher than in the corresponding period of 2013. Of the persons who were killed, 65 travelled by passenger car, six by van, one by lorry, 12 by motorcycle and two by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 18. In addition, six other road users were killed.
