Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives in December

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 429 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 18 persons were killed and 557 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured six lower than in December 2012.

Of the persons who were killed, ten travelled by passenger car, two by van, one by lorry and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered four. Among those who died, 13 were men and five were women.

A total of 5,324 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to December period. In them, 258 persons were killed and 6,670 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured 405 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012. Of the persons who were killed, 153 travelled by passenger car, ten by van, six by lorry, 24 by motorcycle and five by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 33 and cyclists 20. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
