Road traffic accidents claimed 26 lives in September

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 579 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 26 persons were killed and 690 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured 25 lower than in September 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car, two by lorry, one by bus or coach, four by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists five. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and 12 were women.

A total of 4,324 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 209 persons were killed and 5,286 persons injured. The number of persons killed was six lower and that of persons injured 715 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the persons who were killed, 119 travelled by passenger car, nine by van, ten by lorry, one by bus or coach, 21 by motorcycle and five by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 20 and cyclists 15. In addition, nine other road users were killed.
