Road traffic accidents claimed 37 lives in June

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 716 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in June. In them, 37 persons were killed and 912 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 higher and that of persons injured 58 higher than in June 2010.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, 3 by van, 1 by lorry, 8 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 26 were men and 11 were women.

A total of 2,750 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to June period. In them, 129 persons were killed and 3,526 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 higher and that of persons injured 232 higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. Of the person who were killed, 83 travelled by passenger car, 5 by van, 4 by lorry, 11 by motorcycle and 4 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 14 and cyclists 5. In addition, 3 other road users were killed.
