Road traffic accidents claimed 14 lives in March

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 285 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in March. In them, 14 persons were killed and 385 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 3 lower and that of persons injured 27 lower than in March 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2. Among those who died, 8 were men and 6 were women.

A total of 964 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to March period. In them, 47 persons were killed and 1 295 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 lower and that of persons injured 91 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 31 travelled by passenger car, 4 by van, 1 by lorry and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 6 and cyclists 1. In addition, 3 other road users were killed.
