Road traffic accidents claimed 10 lives in November

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 415 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in November. In them, 10 persons were killed and 520 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 18 lower and that of persons injured 137 lower than in November 2008.

Of the persons who were killed, 5 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 1 by lorry and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2. Among those who died, 9 were men and 1 was a woman.

A total of 5 938 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to November period. In them, 259 persons were killed and 7 434 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 56 lower and that of persons injured 422 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the person who were killed, 154 travelled by passenger car, 9 by van, 6 by lorry, 1 by bus or coach, 27 by motorcycle and 10 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 24 and cyclists 19. In addition, 9 other road users were killed.
