Road traffic accidents claimed 25 lives in July

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 725 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 25 persons were killed and 900 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 11 lower and that of persons injured 30 lower than in July 2008.

Of the persons who were killed, 18 travelled by passenger car and 4 by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1 and cyclists 2. Among those who died, 16 were men and 9 were women.

A total of 3 475 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 159 persons were killed and 4 441 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 16 lower and that of persons injured 273 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the person who were killed, 103 travelled by passenger car, 5 by lorry, 5 by van, 1 by bus or coach, 17 by motorcycle and 4 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 14 and cyclists 6. In addition, 4 other road users were killed.
