Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in June

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 677 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in June. In them, 22 persons were killed and 865 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 23 lower and that of persons injured 59 lower than in June 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, 1 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3 and cyclists 1 . Among those who died, 15 were men and 7 were women.

A total of 2 984 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to June period. In them, 139 persons were killed and 3 772 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 39 lower and that of persons injured 54 lower than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 100 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 8 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 19 and cyclists 4. In addition, 5 other road user were killed.
