In 2008, National Institute for Health and Welfare brought into use a new national system of accounting health expenditure and financing that is based on the OECD System of Health Accounts (SHA). The SHA system gathers data by function, provider and source of finance. The statistics are based on data derived from national registers, statistics, financial statements and other similar sources. The data have been produced in accordance with the SHA from the statistical year 1995 onwards.
