The decline in the cubic volume granted for residential buildings tapered off

In July to September, cubic metres covered by permits for residential buildings amounted to 2.0 million cubic metres, which is 7.3 per cent less than one year earlier. In residential building, the cubic volume of detached and terraced houses increased by 11.2 per cent from one year ago. The cubic volume of residential blocks of flats contracted by 4.9 per cent and that of detached houses by 14.2 per cent.

In the third quarter, building permits were granted in total for 6,310 dwellings, the number fell by 2.8 per cent from the previous year.

Cubic volume of other than reidential buildings grew

In the third quarter, building permits of 5.4 million cubic metres were granted for other than residential buildings, which is 5.1 per cent more than one year earlier. The growth in the period is caused by building permits granted for commercial and office buildings and is explained by the low cubic volume in the third quarter of 2018.

Volume of building production decreased

The volume, or the constant-price value of ongoing building production, decreased by 4.7 per cent in July to September 2019 from the year before. The volume of construction of residential buildings declined in the period by 11.5 per cent and that of other than residential building construction, in turn, increased by 0.8 per cent. Measured by volume, 1.1 per cent fewer building projects than one year earlier were started in the same period. The number of residential building starts was 7.6 per cent lower than one year ago.
