Comprehensive schools had 546,100 pupils in 2015

According to Statistics Finland, comprehensive schools had 546,100 pupils in 2015. The number of pupils in comprehensive school increased by 0.6 per cent from the year before. Forty-nine per cent of the pupils in comprehensive school were girls and 51 per cent were boys.

In all, 8.4 per cent of comprehensive school pupils received intensified support in autumn 2015 and 7.3 per cent special support (see database tables). More about this topic in the statistics on special education to be released in June 2016.

The number of pre-primary education pupils was 61,700, of whom 11,400 were in pre-primary education in schools and 50,300 in day care.

There were 2,517 active comprehensive schools in autumn 2015, which was 116 schools fewer than in the year before. Municipalities ran 96 per cent of the comprehensive schools.
