Turnover in service industries increased by 5.5 per cent year-on-year in December to February

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries grew by 5.5 per cent in December to February from the corresponding period of the year before. All service industries continued growing. Administrative and support services activities (+8.6%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+7.2%) developed most strongly. The biggest service industry, transportation and storage, also reached good growth of 6.4 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Renting and leasing activities (+13.8%) and employment activities (+12.7%) boosted administrative and support service activities most. Of the sub-industries, travel agency, tour operator and other reservation services also increased (+8.7%), which helped maintain the strong growth in the branch.

Of the sub-industries of professional, scientific and technical activities, the development was strongest in legal and accounting activities and management consulting services (+10.8%). Other professional, scientific and technical activities also grew briskly (+9.5%).

Hotel and restaurant activities reached a growth of 7.1 per cent. Both industries generated growth for the branch: hotel activities, 9.5 per cent and restaurant activities, 6.4 per cent.

In transportation and storage activities, growth was good, in particular, in warehousing and support activities for transportation (+9.0%). Land and rail transport reached 5.1 per cent growth while water transport slowed down the turnover development of the entire transport industry with a 3.8 per cent drop.

The main industry of other service activities developed slightly better than in the corresponding period of the previous year and grew by 2.2 per cent. The growth of the main industry was slowed by the repair of computers and personal and household goods, where turnover contracted by 7.1 per cent year-on-year.
