Consumption of hard coal decreased by three per cent from January to March
According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, consumption of hard coal decreased by three per cent in the January to March period compared with the corresponding period of last year. A total of 2.2 million tonnes (54,500 TJ) of hard coal was consumed as fuel in the generation of electricity and heat. Use of hard coal went down especially in separate production of electricity. Six per cent less coal was used in separate production of electricity than one year earlier.

The data for years 2010 and 2011 is preliminary.
In the January to March period, consumption of hard coal was 25 per cent up on the average for the 2000s. In March 2011, the stocks of hard coal were 28 per cent down year-on-year.
