These statistics describe entrances and admissions to post-comprehensive school education leading to a qualification or degree, and placement in further education of comprehensive school leavers, matriculated school leavers and qualifiers from secondary level vocational education. The statistics contain data on the numbers of applicants and entrants to education and on their previous education, as well as on students having applied simultaneously to different sectors of education. In addition, the statistics describe the transition of comprehensive school leavers, matriculated school leavers and qualifiers from vocational education to further education and work immediately upon qualifying and within a longer time period. These data have been produced annually since the 1990s. In accordance with the Statistics Act, the personal data from which these statistics are compiled are confidential. As a rule, the statistics produced from them are public.
The statistics contain data on the transition of comprehensive school leavers, matriculated school leavers and qualifiers from secondary level vocational education to further education and work, as well as on applicants and entrants to education.
The data in the statistics are classified according to Statistics Finland’s, the Educational Administration’s and international classifications of fields and levels of education, classifications describing types of educational institutions and diverse regional and demographic classifications.
The data are produced by combining individual-based total data files of Statistics Finland. The data on applicants derive from the National Board of Education’s applicant registers. The data on new entrants and students are based on information collected by Statistics Finland from educational institutions. The data on completers of comprehensive school education derive from the National Board of Education’s register of applications to vocational and upper secondary general education, and the data on attainers of qualifications and on previous education are based on Statistics Finland’s Register of Completed Education and Degrees. The data on employment and other activity derive from Statistics Finland’s employment statistics.
The statistics are produced annually.
The data are released in December.
The statstical data have been produced annually since the 1990. Data on applicants and admissions to university education are available starting from the beginning of the 1980s.
