<description>According to Statistics Finland, in 2010 the number of enterprise openings grew by over six per cent and that of enterprise closures fell by 18 per cent. Examined by industry, enterprise openings and closures increased most in the industry of trade, and by region in Uusimaa. The number of enterprise openings grew only in the regions of Central Finland, Central Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. The number of enterprise closures declined in all regions.</description>

In the fourth quarter of 2009, the number of enterprise closures was down by 11.5 per cent on the corresponding quarter of the year before. Examined by industry the number of enterprise closures was highest in trade and by region relative to the enterprise stock in the region of Uusimaa. In the preliminary annual data concerning the whole of 2009, the number of enterprise openings still indicates decline in all regions. Looking at the whole country, there were 3,424 fewer enterprise openings than in the previous year. By contrast, the number of enterprise closures has continued to fall (-1,232).</description>
