<title>Confirmed election result: Sauli Niinistö was elected President 2012</title>

<description>In the second round of the Presidential election Sauli Niinistö clearly defeated his rival candidate Pekka Haavisto. The total number of votes cast for Niinistö was 1,802,328, which is 62.6 per cent of all votes cast. Pekka Haavisto, the runner-up, received 1,077,425 votes, that is, 37.4 per cent of all votes cast. Sauli Niinistö received 724,903 more votes than Pekka Haavisto in the second round of the elections. Compared with the first round of the election, the number of votes cast for Niinistö grew by 671,074 votes (by 25.6 percentage points) and that for Haavisto by 503,150 votes (by 18.6 percentage points). The data are based on Statistics Finland's statistics on the confirmed election result from the second round of the Presidential election 2012.</description>

<title>Sauli Niinistö and Pekka Haavisto made it to the second round of the Presidential election 2012</title>

<description>In the first round of the Presidential election, the two candidates who received the highest numbers of votes were Sauli Niinistö and Pekka Haavisto. Sauli Niinistö, the candidate of the National Coalition Party received 1,131,254 votes, thus winning the first round with 37.0 per cent of all votes cast. Pekka Haavisto, the candidate of the Green League was second in the first round of the Presidential election with 18.8 per cent of all votes cast. He gained 574,275 votes. The difference between the two candidates with most votes cast was 556,979 votes and 18.2 percentage points.</description>

<title>True Finns the biggest winner in the elections. Coalition Party the largest party in the Parliamentary elections 2011</title>

<description>The True Finns emerged as the winner of the elections as the other parliamentary parties lost their support compared with the previous Parliamentary elections. The True Finns increased their support by 15.0 percentage points, thus gaining 19.1 per cent of the country's votes, which raised it from the smallest parliamentary party into the third largest party in Finland. The number of votes cast for the True Finns gave it 34 additional seats in Parliament. In total, the True Finns got 39 MPs and a total of 560,075 votes in the whole country, which is 447,819 votes more than in the Parliamentary elections 2007.</description>

<description>Altogether 2,315 candidates were nominated for the elections, which is 311 more than in the previous Parliamentary elections. A total of 17 registered political parties take part in the Parliamentary elections. The number of parties participating in the elections fell by one from the previous Parliamentary elections. Three new parties participate in the elections, while the others took part four years earlier as well. The names of the participating parties and the abbreviations used for them can be found in the quality description of this release.</description>

In the four preceding Municipal elections the Coalition Party has been in third place. The Coalition Party took 23.4 per cent of the votes cast and increased its share of votes cast by 1.6 percentage points. The total number of votes for the Coalition Party was 597,727, which is good 76,300 votes more than in the preceding Municipal elections in 2004.</description>

<title>Confirmed result. True Finns and Greens successful in the European Parliament elections 2009</title>

<description>The True Finns won one seat in the European Parliament and the partys leader Timo Soini was the biggest winner with 130,715 votes cast. The next highest numbers of votes were cast for Anneli Jäätteenmäki of the Centre Party (80,156) and Mitro Repo of the Social Democratic Party (71,829). This time Finland elected 13 representatives to the European Parliament instead of the earlier 14. Six of the elected representatives have no prior experience of the European Parliament.</description>

Advance voting takes place in Finland on 27-30 May and 1-2 June 2009 and abroad on 27-30 May 2009. Elections for the Members of European Parliament (European Parliament elections) are held in each Member State in accordance with national election legislation. A total of 736 Members of the European Parliament will be selected for the five-year electoral period 2009-2014 and thirteen of them will be Finnish.</description>

<title>Confirmed election result. Second round. Tarja Halonen was re-elected President in the Presidential election 2006</title>

<description>In the second round of the Presidential election Tarja Halonen defeated her rival candidate Sauli Niinistö. The total number of votes cast for Halonen was 1,630,980, that is, 51.8 per cent of all votes cast. Sauli Niinistö, the runner-up, received 1,518,333 votes, or 48.2 per cent of all votes, which means that the support for Halonen was 3.6 percentage points higher than that for Sauli Niinistö. The election result was quite even; in numbers, the difference was a total of 112,647 votes. Around 893,900 votes remained to be divided as a legacy from the first round. Compared with the first round of the election, the proportion of Niinistö grew by 792,467 votes (by 24.1 percentage points) and that of Halonen by 233,950 votes (by 5.5 percentage points).</description>
