<title>In January 2012 the number of new passenger cars registered was 14,263</title>

<description>In January 2012 a total of 20,289 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 15,864 were automobiles. First registrations increased by 0.3 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year. In January the number of new passenger cars registered was 14,263, which was 3.4 per cent up from the year before. The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 41.3 per cent. These data are based on the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency and they have been produced by Statistics Finland. The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.</description>

<title>Finnish residents favoured trips abroad in December 2011</title>

<description>In December Finnish residents set off abroad and their trips with overnight stay in the destination country numbered close on 300,000. The destination of every fourth of these trips was the Canary Islands. Finnish residents made nearly 120,000 cruises in December. Leisure trips in Finland with paid ac-commodation remained on level with the previous year. The regions favoured in December were Uusimaa and North Ostrobothnia.</description>

<title>Nights spent by foreign tourists in Finland up by 4 per cent in November 2011</title>

<description>The number of recorded nights spent by foreign tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments in November 2011 was nearly 339,000, which was four per cent more than in November 2010. The total number of overnight stays increased by three per cent from the previous year and altogether 1.3 million overnight stays were recorded at accommodation establishments. The number of nights spent by resident tourists went up by two per cent and totalled 945,000 million in November 2011. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finlands statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 10 rooms, cottages, or caravan pitches with electricity connection, and youth hostels.</description>

<description>November darkness prompted Finnish residents to travel to Estonia or the Canary Islands. Trips with overnight stays to Finnish residents' favourite destination of Estonia numbered 73,000 while 76,000 trips were made to Spain. The destination of 77 per cent of the trips to Spain was the Canary Islands. Cruises to Sweden also attracted Finnish residents in the late autumn gloom. Domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation decreased from the respective time period of the year before. The region favoured in November was Uusimaa.</description>

<title>Goods transported by lorries in domestic transport decreased in July to September 2011</title>

<description>In the third quarter of 2011, the volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic road transport decreased by 22 per cent from the corresponding quarter of 2010. A total of 74 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries during the July to September period of 2011. Twenty-six per cent less of soil materials and 19 per cent less of other materials were transported than in the July to September period of 2010.</description>

Finnish residents made 176,000 leisure trips or cruises with overnight stays to Estonia and Sweden, which is 56 per cent more than in the corresponding period of one year ago. Finnish residents were also keen to travel to the Mediterranean to where the number of trips went up by 78 per cent from last year. Domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation went down by 11 per cent in September when compared with the respective month of the previous year.</description>
