The Business Register inquires yearly data from single-establishment enterprises. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The questionnaire is sent during January, April and October. The responses can be submitted on an electronic questionnaire, in the envelope provided or by telefax.
Around 7,000 enterprises belong yearly to the inquiry to single-establishment enterprises. All enterprises with over 20 person-years, those involved in mergers and a group of growth enterprises are inquired. In addition, inquired are those enterprises for which other statistics or the business addresses of Itella Corporation, for example, have indicated changes in information.
The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, certain Business Register data are public. For enterprises and corporations public are data concerning the name and address, Business ID, industry, legal form, number of personnel, size category of turnover and personnel, and for establishments the name, address, industry and size category of personnel. According to the Council Regulation (EEC) No 177/2008 on business registers, Statistics Finland is obliged to maintain a business register for statistical purposes.
