The Business Register inquires yearly data from new enterprises. The data are collected for maintaining the Business Register. The largest enterprises are inquired by telephone. A questionnaire is sent to other new enterprises during February, May, September and November. The responses can be submitted on the electronic questionnaire.
The inquiry covers yearly around 6,000 enterprises. The target group is new enterprises and corporations added to the Business Register during the past year.
The obligation to reply is based on the Statistics Act (280/04). The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. According to Section 18 of the Statistics Act, certain Business Register data are public. For enterprises and corporations public are data concerning the name and address of, Business ID, industry, legal form, number of personnel, size category of turnover and personnel and for establishments the name, address, industry and size category of personnel. According to the Council Regulation (EEC) No 177/2008 on business registers, Statistics Finland is obliged to maintain a business register for statistical purposes.
