According to the European Union’s regulation on structural business statistics (295/2008), a survey of the volume of turnover by product group and the distribution of turnover by customer group must be conducted every five years in the industry of wholesale trade. Enterprises’ data supply obligation is also based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004). The inquiry is also made in other Member States of the European Union besides Finland. The used product classification is the product classification (CPA 2008) of the European Union. The collected data will be reported to Eurostat.
The target population of the inquiry are enterprises operating in the industry of wholesale trade. The basic data for the enterprises are derived from Statistics Finland’s Business Register. The sample is formed of the largest enterprises in the industry plus enterprises drawn by random selection. The size of the sample is around 1,200. The obtained data are methodologically inflated to represent the whole industry of wholesale trade. The first inquiry on wholesale trade was made in 2004 to collect statistical data concerning 2003 and the next inquiry will be conducted in autumn 2009. The data must be collected direct from enterprises because there are no suitable administrative or other data.
The data supplied by you are treated as confidential. The Statistics Act obliges Statistics Finland to keep data on individual enterprises undisclosed. The collected data will be used for statistical and research purposes only and will be published so that data on individual enterprises cannot be identified. Data concerning an individual enterprise will not be released to third parties or even to other authorities.
