Environmental protection expenditure in industry describes the demand for environmental protection in industry. The inquiry is used to collect data on environmental protection investments, running and maintenance expenditure of environmental protection equipment and expenditure on other operations, such as supervision and monitoring, various payments and compensations, administrative expenditure and R&D expenditure. The data collection is based on the Regulation (EC) No 295/2008 of the European Parliament and the Council, concerning structural business statistics. The survey unit is establishment. The statistics include the industries of mining and quarrying, manufacturing, energy supply and purification and distribution of water. The inquiry includes about 2,000 establishments. The data supply obligation is based on the Finnish Statistics Act (280/2004). Statistics Finland is entitled to obtain the data free of charge (Section 21). The data on establishments are treated confidentially (Sections 12 to 13) and they are used only for statistical purposes. The unit-level data of the register are confidential. Industry-specific data are public. The data are collected annually during spring and summer. The data can be supplied electronically with an Internet form or on a paper form by mail.
