The steel statistics continue the annual ECSC statistics on steel. The statistics serve the data needs of both producers of steel and administration at the EU level. The data are transmitted to Eurostat and they are not published in Finland.
The compilation of the steel statistics is based on the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No 48/2004 on the production of annual Community statistics on the steel industry for the reference years 2003-2009.The data are collected directly from enterprises with an inquiry form. The population consists of kind-of-activity-units (enterprises) operating in the industry "271 Manufacture of basic iron and steel and of ferro-alloys" that employ at least 50 persons. Four such enterprises are located in Finland.
The Statistics Act (Sections 12 and 13) obliges Statistics Finland to treat the data as confidential. The data are used for statistical purposes only. By law, data collected for statistical purposes ar condifential. Statistics Finland uses the data to compile statistics and research. Data on individual enterprises are not released to third parties, other authorities included.
