The purpose of the inquiry is to collect data defined in the Regulation 716/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council on Finnish-owned affiliates, branches and associated companies abroad. The inquiry collects data on the numbers, locations and activities, such as turnover and number of persons employed, of the affiliates, branches and associated companies located abroad.
The data are collected every year. A corresponding inquiry is carried out in all EU countries. In years 1996-2006 data have been collected by the Bank of Finland as a part of its inquiry on Finnish enterprises' outward direct investment.The inquiry is addressed to the group parent companies located in Finland, who either directly or indirectly own affiliates or branches abroad, or whose voting power in associated companies abroad is at least 10 per cent. The group's parent provides the requested data on her affiliates, associated companies and branches located abroad.
The data collected in the inquiry are confidential by virtue of Section 24, Paragraph 1, Sub-paragraph 16 of the Act on the Openness of Government Activities (621/1999). Statistics Finland uses the data only for the compilation of statistics and for conducting research. The data will be released so that data on individual enterprises cannot be identified. Statistics Finland may release data only for scientific studies and statistical surveys without identification data.
